Nirbhaya gang-rape case: Supreme Court to continue hearing arguments

The four convicts Akshay, Vinay Sharma, Pawan and Mukesh has challenged the death sentence given to them by the Delhi High Court.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court will on Monday continue to hear arguments related to December 16, 2012 gang-rape case, that shook the entire nation. 

In a special hearing held on Friday, Amicus Curiae Sanjay Hegde questioned the evidence produced by the prosecution in the sensational gang-rape case. 

Hegde said the one of the convicts, Mukesh, was not with the prime culprit Ram Singh when the crime was being committed. 

Adding further, he said that mobile locations of Mukesh and Ram Singh were found to be different on the night the offence took place. the offence took place. 

It is to be noted that Ram Singh, then a prime accused in the Nirbhaya gang-rape, hung himself while lodged in Tihar jail in 2013. Singh was the driver of the bus in which Nirbhaya was raped and tortured by six men.

However, challenging Hegde's claims, Delhi Police lawyer Siddhartha Luthra said that they have statements of the dying victim, forensic evidence with regard to DNA blood samples and fingerprints. 

He said that all those evidence establishes the fact of the alleged person's involvement in the crime. 

On the night December 16, 2012, a 23-year-old medical student was assaulted and brutally gang-raped b six people in a moving bus in South Delhi. The victim succumbed to her injuries in Singapore after battling for almost two weeks, on December 29, 2012.
