Race Course Metro station will now be Lok Kalyan Marg station
While the station name boards will be changed immediately, it will be followed by gradual changes in maps, digital displays inside the trains and so on.
New Delhi: Race Course Metro Station will now be called Lok Kalyan Marg Metro station in line with renaming of the Race Course Road earlier this week, Delhi Metro said on Saturday.
While the station name boards will be changed immediately, it will be followed by gradual changes in the automatic announcement system, maps, digital displays inside the trains and so on.
"Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has initiated the process of changing the name of the Race Course Metro station to Lok Kalyan Marg Metro station as per the directive of the Government," spokesperson of DMRC Anuj Dayal said.
A metro official said that while the display boards on the station will be replaced within one or two days, changes in the announcement system and digital displays will involve software updates and will take some time.
The move comes days after the Race Course Road, where the Prime Minister`s official residence is located, was renamed Lok Kalyan Marg on Wednesday.
BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi, who represents New Delhi constituency in the Lok Sabha, had suggested that Race Course Road must be renamed as Ekatma Marg.
On the other hand, the AAP had proposed that it be named after Guru Gobind Singh.
Eventually, a compromise was reached to call it Lok Kalyan Marg.
