New Delhi: The Youth Congress on Wednesday held a massive protest and agitation outside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence against the MLAs salary hike issue.
The protestors held placards and raised slogans against Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party Government.
"Today the people can see what kind of MLAs and Chief Minister they have chosen in Delhi. We demand that Arvind Kejriwal must hold public dialogue at Jantar Mantar and discuss about this issue," said one of the protestors.
"We demand that the old and the handicapped must be given pension before Diwali," he added.
An independent panel has recommended salary hike of the MLAs. The recommendation suggests that MLAs salary should be increased to Rs. 50,000 from the current Rs. 12,000 and Rs. 70,000 for assistance.
The independent committee of experts, which was set up to look into revision of pay and allowances for Delhi's MLAs, has recommended a hefty hike - from the current Rs 88,000 to Rs 2.10 lakh per month. This amount includes the total salary as well as various allowances.
