Beijing: A typhoon bringing gales and packing winds up to 50 meters per second on Sunday hit the coastal Chinese city of Zhanjiang, authorities said.

Mujigae is the 22nd typhoon to lash China this year. It made landfall in Guangdong province, the Global Times reported.

It is set to bring torrential rain to the coastal regions of Guangdong and Guangxi till Monday.

Local authorities ordered suspension of all maritime travel.
