Chennai: Tuesday was the first day of Indian Institute of Technology-Madras placements. A total of 89 job offers were made during two of the three sessions yesterday. Out of the 89, six offers were made during the graveyard session held from 1 am to 6 am on Monday.

During the first session, Microsoft made three offers, while Oracle, Google, VISA made one offer each.


IIT-Madras split day-long placement schedules into two phases in a day. During the two sessions (8 am to 2 pm, and 3 pm to 11 pm), various management consultant and computer science (CS) companies, non-CS companies made offers.


The institute said the average base pay, excluding bonuses and other pay variables, is about Rs 85 lakh.


Day 2 (Wednesday), which will have two sessions, will see Skype interviews, among others.


This year, IIT-M has reduced the usual 15-day recruitment period to 10 days as it has to host the upcoming Inter-IIT Sports Meet from December 14.
