In a letter to Vice Chancellors, the UGC said that after the guidelines for one-year degree were framed in 2012, certain concerns regarding quality were expressed after which a committee was constituted.

The committee, it added, observed that by having two types of LLM courses - one of single year duration and another lasting two years - had created confusion.

The panel recommended that there is need to prescribe appropriate standards in terms of curriculum, credits and duration.

Acting on the recommendation, UGC has sought details from colleges about their one year LLM degree programme.
