Arun Jaitely could not attend the event as he is filing nomination from Amritsar today.
The BJP manifesto committee was headed by Dr Murli Manohar Joshi. Other members of the panel are Yashwant Sinha, Prem Kumar Dhumal, Sushil Kumar Modi, Jual Oram, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Lakshmikanta Chawla, Satpal Malik, Bandaru Dattatreya, Bijoya Chakravarty, Dr Satyanarayan Jatiya, Shanawaz Hussain, Dr Mahesh Chandra Sharma, Kanchan Gupta and Shanmukhanathan. Senior party leader Jaswant Singh, who rebelled against the party over denial of party ticket from Barmer in Rajasthan was also part of the committee.
The BJP manifesto has come on a day when the first of the nine phases is being held in six constituencies in the two northeastern states of Assam and Tripura.
The Election Commission, Sunday, made it clear that there is no bar on a party to release its manifesto on a poll day, but it cannot be publicised or telecast in areas where elections are being held.
"There is no such bar. Election manifesto can be released any time," Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath said.
