Bhopal: With two FIRs being filed against Bharatiya Janata Party`s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for violating model code of conduct, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday came forward to defend his Gujarat counterpart saying that `Modi is being singled out`.
Reacting to Election Commission`s decision of ordering the Gujarat administration to file a complaint or FIR against Modi, the MP Chief Minister tweeted, “If a political celebrity comes out of the booth and is surrounded by enthusiasts, will it be called a meeting? Did he organise it?”
In an apparent reference to the poll panel, Chouhan, who is expecting to lead the BJP to an emphatic win in the Elections 2014 in his state, tweeted:

He further took on the EC for initiating action against Modi saying, “Selective prosecution is a violation of the constitutional guarantee of equal protection of law. It is a denial of justice.”
Following the Election Commission orders, two FIRs were registered today against the BJP strongman for violating code of conduct in Ahmedabad by Gujarat police.

"The Commission is of the view that by holding that meeting and also by addressing the same today when the polling is going on in the entire state of Gujarat and in different parts of the country, Narendra Modi has violated the provisions of Sections 126 (1)(a) and 126 (l)(b) of Representation of People Act, 1951. "Therefore, the Commission directs...That complaint/ FIR as the case may be, should be filed against Narendra Modi and all others who were involved in the convening and holding of the said meeting...," the EC order said in Delhi.
Congress at Modi, asking the poll panel to direct the Gujarat government to act neutrally on the alleged election model code of conduct violation by him.
BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi told reporters that the party will abide by the EC`s decision adding that no code of conduct was violated by Modi. "We respect EC, whatever EC`s verdict will be, we will abide by it. According to us Mr Modi did not violate any code of conduct," Lekhi said.
