Delhi: A luxurious bulletproof tent which was used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent visit to Gujarat’s Kutch region is set to be thrown open to tourists during the annual desert festival​ Rann Utsav.

As per a report in Hindustan Times, the tent in which PM stayed during his three-day visit to the desert village of Dhordo for the state police chiefs’ meet last week, has a huge bedroom with a wooden carved bed, a drawing room with sofas, a television set and multimedia players.


It also has a dining hall, a conference room, a lounge, a bathroom with modern fittings, and a wardrobe section.


The report quoted N Srivastav, managing director of the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited, as saying that the tent was going to be an added attraction at the site.


At the same time, Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel is likely to be the first guest to stay in the tent, the report quoted TCGL sources as saying.


She is due to inaugurates the Rann Utsav on Thursday which will be opened to the public only in January.


But the charges of staying at the tent may be at least Rs 8,000 per person for a night, excluding meals.


The desert festival is said to be PM Modi’s brainchild when he was the CM of Gujarat and marketed by actor Amitabh Bachchan.


The festival was first launched in 2005 and is said to attract as many as 2.5 lakh tourists every year.


Meanwhile, the report quoted Gujarat Congress chief Bharatsinh Solanki as saying that the tent was set up at a cost of Rs 31 lakh.
