India said on Monday that it had expelled a member of the Pakistan high commission in New Delhi for what it called activities that were "inconsistent with the legitimate sphere of activities".
"A Pakistani high commission staffer has been asked to leave the country," foreign ministry spokeswoman Nirupama Rao told reporters. "The joint secretary in the ministry of external affairs called on the deputy high commissioner of Pakistan and informed that the staffer's activities are inconsistent with the legitimate sphere of activities. He should leave the country within a week," Rao said, but did not give more details.

Tension between the two countries has been running high since the December 13 attack on Parliament.
New Delhi recalled its envoy from Islamabad on Friday, accusing Pakistan of failing to act against terrorism.
