The criticism came in the light of state Health Minister Ahmad Hasan recently describing doctors and health employees in Uttar Pradesh as pimps and robbers.

BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said if such was the condition of the so-called sunshine sector of the ruling Samajwadi Party government, it spoke volumes of the drift in governance.

"Diseases like encephalitis, dengue, viral fever are killing people in large number across the state and the government is busy making tall claims whereas the realities are otherwise, as experienced by the health minister himself," Pathak told IANS.

He was referring to a recent remark of state Health Minister Ahmad Hasan tried the 108 ambulance service' helpline number. But it was never answered.

The BJP leader pointed out that patients were dying without treatment at many places and they were being denied admission at government hospitals until they have any recommendation.

"Only recently a poor woman Bhanmati from Gonda kept doing the rounds for admission but was shooed away, until a newspaper reporter helped her," Pathak said.
