New Delhi: Many queries pop-up in our mind when one has to opt for breast implants. The most important of all is whether breastfeeding will be possible after the implants are carried out.
Paresh Doshi, senior counselor for breast augmentation at Allure medspa, told TheHealthsite.com that not all breast implants interfere with breastfeeding.
There are three types of breast implants which are practiced commonly.
First is the axillary technique which involves implants with the help of an incision below in the armpit. This type of breast augmentation doesn't give any problems in breastfeeding as the muscles near the armpit are not associated with the breast and milk flow through glands.
Second type is the infra-mammary technique wherein an incision is made in the crease below the breast. This implant is also safe and not poses any discomfort during breastfeeding just like the axillary technique. The milk flow also remains normal.
Axillary and infra-mammary technique are the commonly practiced breast implant in India. They are common not only because there is no problem faced by the patient during breastfeeding but also because of the final outcome of implants.
Third type of breast implant that is periareolar method should not be opted if you are planning to breastfeed after augmentation. Breastfeeding is not possible in this implant as an incision is made on the skin around the nipple to hide the scar which damages the tissue that is critical to breastfeeding.
So, it is advisable to all those who wanted to go for breast implant to discuss with their doctor and understand the various options for breast augmentation and study their pros and cons before they opt for the treatment.
