BJP leader and Union Minister Tapan Sikdar on Saturday said the party`s state unit was totally against re-admitting Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee into the NDA, even as pressure was mounting within TC for rejoining the ruling coalition at the Centre.
"We are totally against taking her back to the NDA. We have informed our central leadership that the party`s state unit will be affected if she is taken back," Sikdar said in Kolkata. The BJP leader said an overwhelming section of the party`s grassroot workers are against her rejoining the NDA. Any move to readmit her would frustrate the rank and file.
Sikdar, who is at loggerheads with Banerjee, said he has nothing against the Trinamool Congress. We will welcome other Trinamool MPs to join the NDA under the leadership of Ajit Panja. Refusing to attach much importance to the TC chief`s recent parleys with NDA convenor George Fernandes and Union Home Minister L K Advani, Sikdar said that the BJP chief Jana Krishnamurthy has made it clear that `NDA is not a guest house where anyone can go and come out at free will`.
Stating that she has caused enough damage to his party by dictating terms during her stay in the NDA, the BJP leader said attempts are being made to gear up the state unit.
Despite sudden snapping of ties by Trinamool Congress just before the assembly elections, BJP has managed to retain about six per cent votes, he said.
