New Delhi: Setting another milestone, Delhi Traffic Police and a private hospital today coordinated to transport a human heart for transplantation from Gurgaon to New Friends Colony in a record time.

It took ambulance 21.35 minutes to cover a distance of 25.4 kms between two branches of the hospital.

"The ambulance carrying the donated heart covered 25.4 kms between the two hospitals in a record 21.35 minutes due to the green corridor managed by traffic police," said Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Muktesh Chander.

The family members of a brain dead patient had agreed for heart donation, which was transported from Fortis Escort Hospital Gurgaon for transplantation to another patient in New Friends Colony.

The route followed by the ambulance from Aya Nagar border to Andheria More, MB Road, Khanpur, BRT corridor, Chirag Dilli, Outer Ring Road and Modi Mill flyover, was manned by traffic police.

The journey was video recorded to identify the vehicles that did not give right of way to the ambulance despite instructions for them to move in the left lane, said the officer.

Violators identified through video evidence will be prosecuted and sent challans by traffic police, he added.

Last month, Delhi Police had arranged a green corridor to transport a human heart from a hospital in Karol Bagh to the other in Saket facilitating the ambulance to travel the distance of 20 kms in 16 minutes.
