Jammu: A middle-aged man Friday died of swine flu here, taking the death toll in the city to five, while nine people have tested positive for the disease.

"A middle-aged man who was admitted at the Government Medical college hospital in Jammu and had tested positive for swine flu, died today," Dr R R Paul, Medical Superintendent GMC, told PTI.


He said a total of 24 patients were undergoing treatment at the isolation ward of the hospital.


"There are 24 patients admitted in the isolation ward of the hospital," he said.


The health department in Jammu said that nine people have today tested positive with the virus.


"Today we received 43 reports out of which nine have been tested positive for the virus," Dr Baljeet Pathania, Director Health service, Jammu, said.


He too confirmed that one swine flu related death has taken place in Jammu hospital.


An Army Jawan who was undergoing swine flu treatment at the military hospital in Jammu also died today morning.


"A Jawan who was undergoing swine flu treatment at the military hospital in Satwari, Jammu, passed away today morning," Jammu-based defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said.


He said four other Jawans were undergoing treatment for respiratory related disorder at the Military hospital.


"A Jawan who had tested positive for swine flu was discharged from the hospital after treatment, while four are undergoing treatment and their test reports are still awaited," he said.
