In a setback to King Gyanendra`s bid to assuage sense of public outrage over Friday`s palace massacre through an impartial probe, the opposition leader in the three-member inquiry committee has refused to take part in it. In a statement, Nepal Communist Party - United Marxist and Leninist (NCP-UML) leader Madhav Kumar Nepal refused to have anything to do with the committee expressing reservations over the manner in which it was constituted.
King Gyanendra announced the setting up of the three-member committee on Monday. It is to be headed by chief justice Keshav Prasad Upadhyay and has been asked to complete its report within three days.
The king assured the nation that its findings would be made public. Our party has reservations about the manner in which the committee was set up and humbly conveys its inability to participate, NCP-UML said.
