New Delhi: Yoga experts can now get a quality certificate of their competence by a government- identified agency.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Monday inaugurated a scheme for voluntary certification of Yoga professionals during valedictory session of an international conference here.


The focus of the scheme, which is being mentored by Ministry of AYUSH and owned by Quality Council of India (QCI), is to certify the competence of professionals, who provide Yoga lessons or classes.


The certification will be done for the three levels-- Yoga teachers, Yoga masters and Yoga gurus.


At present, the certification is being provided for Yoga teacher, as per the details of the scheme explained during the event.


The Prime Minister had desired to spread India's traditional knowledge worldwide with credible systems which shall provide the country the leadership in assuring quality of Yoga practices across the world.


The Ministry of AYUSH in pursuance of the Prime Minister's desire and in the wake of declaration of International Day of Yoga recognises that there is a huge demand for Yoga experts at national and international level, reads the background information of the scheme.


The Ministry identified the QCI to develop the scheme. A final scheme was thus prepared and launched today by the Home Minister.


During the function, the Home Minister also gave quality certificates to few candidates who qualified in the pilot evaluation.
