While many consider cravings as a weakness, they actually are vital signs to help you in maintaining balance. In fact, cravings are our body's way of communicating with us. The point is that you should be able to interpret those signs so that your body is nurtured with the correct food.

But controlling your urge for those sweet, greasy and fried foods can be difficult at times. Try these tips to help you overcome your cravings:

Breakfast: A healthy breakfast rich in protein and fiber can help control food cravings. Research has shown that a protein-rich breakfast boosts levels of dopamine (a hormone which regulates cravings and food intake) in the brain. Eggs are a good option- whether they are scrambled or in the form of omelet. Boiled eggs are delicious and even healthier.

Sleep: Sleep deprivation can increase your hunger during the day which in turn leads to cravings. Try getting proper sleep for at least 7-8 hours every night.

Distract yourself: It says cravings usually last ten minutes. So if you have cravings for just a particular food, recognise that and divert your mind by talking to friends, meditation, exercise, etc.

Varied diet: Eating same food or sticking to the same diet can leave you feeling unfulfilled and increase your cravings. Try to include different types of food in your diet.

Seasonal foods: Seasonal foods not only taste better, but may also contain ingredients that suits the body's needs during that time of the year. Since seasonal and local foods are more nutrients, eating these will boost your health while reducing your cravings.
