Heavy snowfall, rain bring down temperatures in Himachal Pradesh
Heavy snowfall and rains lashed many parts of Himachal Pradesh, causing sharp decline in day temperatures and throwing normal life out of gear.

The entire tribal belt and higher hills of Himachal had another spell of moderate snowfall while mid and lower hills had widespread rains.
Shimla and its surrounding resorts of Kufri, Fagu and Narkanda had another spell of fresh snow while Dhauladhar ranges in Kangra, Churdhar ranges in Sirmaur, Rohtang Pass and higher hills in Chamba district experienced heavy snowfall, throwing normal life out of gear.
The Hindustan-Tibet National was closed for traffic beyond Kufri due to heavy snow and Rampur and Rekong Peo have been diverted via Dhami and Basantpur.
The Shimla-Chopal and Shimla-Rohroo roads were closed due to heavy snow at Khara-Patthar.
The state capital Shimla received 12 cm of snow while Kufri, Khara-Patthar and Narkanda had 25 cm, 30 cm and 35 cm of snow respectively.
Haripurdhar area in Sirmaur and adjoining Chopal and Nerwa area of Shimla district also received 30 cm to 40 cm of snow while Churdhar ranges and rohtang Pass had 80 to 90 cm of snow.
The majestic Dhauladhar donned a mantle of impeccable white snow while Chitkul and Kinner Kailash had another spell of heavy snowfall.
The tribal areas of Lahaul, Pangi and Udaipur remained cut off by road from rest of the state due to closure of Rohtang Pass.
Strong velocity icy winds accompanied by rains swept the mid and lower hills and Dharamsala recorded 38 mm of rainfall followed by Manali 30.4 mm, Gaggal 20 mm, Sundernagar 18 mm, Salooni 13 mm, Baijnath and Rajgarh 9 mm.
While Mehre and Seobagh received 8 mm rainfall, Nagrota Suriyan 7 mm and Sarahan and Amb received 6 mm.
Kalpa received 25 cm of snow while Bharmaur and Pangi had 30 cm of snow followed by Udaipur and Moorang 25 cm and Keylong 20 cm.
The minimum temperatures rose marginally due to clouded sky and Keylong recorded a low of minus 2.4 degrees, followed? by Kalpa minus 1.0 degrees, Manali minus 0.8 degrees, Shimla 1.0 degrees, Dharamsala 4.4 degrees, Nahan 4.7 degrees, Palampur 5.8 degrees, Una 6.2 degrees, Bhuntar 7.0 degrees and Sundernagar 8.0 degrees.
The maximum day temperatures plummeted and dropped by five to nine degrees and Una, which was hottest during the day, recorded a high of 13.0 degrees against 19.0 degrees yesterday while Dharamshala 12.0 degrees, Nahan 10.7 degrees, Sundernagar 9.5 degrees, Bhunter 8.2?degrees, Shimla 4.6 degrees and Kalpa 0.8?degree Celsius, a drop of seven to nine degrees.
The local Met office has predicted light rains or snow at some places in higher hills tomorrow and dry weather in the region from January 15 onwards.
