New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday named Gujarat-cadre IPS officer Rakesh Asthana as the interim chief after Anil Sinha retired from the post.
Asthana, a 1984-batch officer got elevated as the second-in-command in CBI just two days ago when the front-runner for the top post R K Dutta was placed in home ministry as special secretary.
It is for the first time in last decade that no new CBI chief has been named to succeed an incumbent.
60-year-old Sinha was a assertive leader had played an instrumental role in Vijay Mallya's loan default case and Sheena Bora murder case.
