Rajan, a one-time close confidante of India's most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim, is wanted for heinous crimes ranging from murder to extortion and drug smuggling and had a Interpol Red-Corner Notice issued against him.

However, Rajan's biggest worry has been the threat he faced from Dawood's hitman Chhota Shakeel. Ever since he made a daring escape from the D-gang in Dubai, Rajan has lived in fear of being eliminated by his enemies.

55-year-old Rajan is also believed to be suffering from multiple ailments, thereby giving credence to reports that the ailing don may have thought that the safest place for him now would be in the custody of the Indian government.

What adds credence to this line of thought is the fact that he was arrested with an Indian passport issued in the name of Kumar Mohan issued from Sydney.

As per a report in the Firstpost, India's National Security Advisor Ajit Kumar Doval was the brain behind Rajan's 'surrender'.

India would be hoping that Rajan can throw more light on Dawood Ibrahim, and especially present some concrete proof on his presence in Pakistan.
