The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has time and again fired salvos at the Nitish government for the alleged rise in crime in the state. BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav on Monday reiterated his party`s stand and said there has been a substantive rise in crime rate, owing to the `rising confidence in criminals of being saved by the state administration`.

The JD (U) has, however, rubbished all allegations and accused the BJP of  `playing myopic opportunistic politics`.

JD (U) chief KC Tyagi said the allegations being made by the BJP regarding the law and order situation in the state is only a reaction to the elections that the latter lost in Bihar.

Nitish Kumar has come under severe attack from the opposition parties following the murder of two engineers of a private firm in Darbhanga district. Police are suspecting extortion as one of the reasons behind the murders. One person has been arrested in connection with the case.
