Don`t want mediocre thinking of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat: Rahul Gandhi
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi alleged that RSS has attacked `our liberty, our rights and our democratic space.`
New Delhi: In a scathing attack on RSS and the ruling BJP, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday accused them of viciously wounding India's peace and freedom and said that the people of the country doesn't need mediocre thinking of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
“We don't want the mediocre thinking of Mohan Bhagwat in this country. Peace & freedom have been viciously wounded in our country. There is no peace without freedom,” Rahul said.
He alleged that the Hindu nationalist group has attacked “our liberty, our rights and our democratic space.”
Blaming the BJP for the instances of intolerance in the country, he said: “As they have demonstrated in the last 18 months, they are prepared to use the very power of the Republic to destroy it”.
He said that India's first prime minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was a deeply tolerant man.
“To him, India's tolerance was what made us great. Our tolerance was what we had to offer the rest of the world.
“He saw strength in the fact that everybody had a different background and story.
“We condemn all attacks on freedom – of speech and expression, faith and worship, thought and belief,” ANI quoted the Congress leader as saying at a national conference organised in Delhi to observe the 125th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru.
“With what face does the BJP ban people without degrees from fighting Panchayat elections in some of their states? This country belongs to any well wisher who comes into contact with it,” he said.
"The stated policy of the RSS is to create a theocratic, autocratic state in India. For the first time in India a fascist organization which is openly opposed to values of the constitution has acquired decisive power," he said.
