New Delhi: BJP President Amit Shah on Tuesday backed the Narendra Modi government`s decision to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes from midnight, saying the move will help in eliminating corruption.

"PM @narendramodi has yet again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to promises he made to people of India," Amit Shah said in a Tweet within minutes of Modi concluding his address to the nation.


"PM @narendramodi ji`s decision to discontinue Rs. 500 and Rs.1000 rupee note will immensely help in eliminating the corruption.


"Let us all support PM @narendramodi in his efforts & together nurture a nation that we all are proud of. I once again congratulate him," he said in a series of tweets.


"Announcements made by PM @narendramodi are exactly what is needed to uproot corruption, black money, hawala & fake currency rackets.


"On behalf of all BJP Karyakartas, I compliment the Central government and PM @narendramodi for taking tough but timely and path-breaking measures," he further posted.


"Evil designs of anti-India elements who support terror on Indian soil, fake currency rackets and narcotics also stand thwarted today," Shah tweeted.
