New Delhi: The nation today remembered Jawaharlal Nehru on his 52nd death anniversary with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Vice President Hamid Ansari along with other leaders paying tributes to the country's first Prime Minister.

"Remembering our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary," Modi said in a tweet.


Ansari along with Congress President Sonia Gandhi and other party leaders paid floral tributes to Nehru at his memorial Shanti Van on the banks of Yamuna here this morning.


Congress leaders including Sheila Dikshit and Ajay Maken were among those who paid homage at the memorial of Nehru on the occasion.


Born on November 14, 1889, Nehru was one of the prominent nationalist leaders of the freedom struggle in the 20th century and the central figure of independent India as its first Prime Minister till his demise on May 27, 1964.
