Mufti, without expressing her clear views on the sedition charges levelled against Kanhaiya, said, “It should be left for courts to decide who is guilty or not, it should not be decided by media or politicians.”

PDP's reaction was the most searched out after the JNU controversy erupted, as the party is an ally to BJP. PDP has always opposed the hanging of Afzal Guru and even was party to a resolution brought in the state assembly against his execution.

Accusing Mufi of speaking BJP's language, former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah said, “How quickly her choice of words has begun to resemble her allies'. The transformation is now complete.”
