New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party's youth wing has filed a complaint against Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union president Kanhaiya Kumar over remarks made by him on the Indian Army.
Addressing a student's gathering on women's day, the JNU student leader said, "No matter how much you try to stop us, we will speak up against human rights violations. We will raise our voice against AFSPA. While we have a lot of respect for our soldiers, we will still talk about the fact that in Kashmir women are raped by security personnel."
Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Wednesday filed a complaint in Vasant Vihar police station against Kanhaiya and JNU professor Nivedita Menon saying they made "anti-national" statements in the aftermath of February 9 event.
Kanhaiya was recently released on conditional six-month interim bail by the Delhi High Court on March 02.
He was arrested on sedition charges for for allegedly raising anti-national slogans at a cultural event organised on the campus on February 9 to commemorate the third anniversary of the execution of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
While giving bail to Kanhaiya, the high court had said he will "not participate actively or passively in any activity which may be termed as anti-national" and told him that as president of JNU students union, he "will make all efforts within his power to control anti-national activities in the campus".
