Mumbai: A massive fire broke out at a scrap market in the Goregaon area of Mumbai on Friday morning.

Several fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.


The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.


Mumbai Police Assistant Police Inspector Sambhaji Patankar said that there were no causalities because the alertness of the police.


"Several people were sleeping in the garages when this incident took place. Our beat marshal informed us and woke them up. I think nobody was injured because the police woke them up in time and asked them to leave before the fire spread," he said.


Meanwhile, Haji Mohammed, an eye-witness, expressed his despair after his shop was gutted.


"My shop has been totally consumed by flames. I came to know when one of the boys called me up to inform about the fire. I think over 100 shops have been gutted," he said.
