Bhubaneswar: Describing media as the mirror of society, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said it plays a major role in helping the government solve problems faced by the people.

As the government gets to know about various problems of people through the media, it helps in meeting the needs of the public, Patnaik said while launching a new news channel, 'Kalinga TV', here.


Stating that popularity of television news channels is growing day by day, the chief minister said the media is like the mirror of the society.


Patnaik hoped Kalinga TV will be helpful to fulfil the hope and aspiration of Odiya people, a release from the channel said.


Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Odisha's Minister for Health and Family Welfare and Information & Public Relations, said media has a vital role to build a healthy society.


News channels and print media should "avoid negativity" and should present the fact in an "unbiased way", he said.


In his welcome address, Achyuta Samanta, Founder of Kalinga TV claimed, people are "getting bored" coming across negative news daily in various media.


The effort would be to present news in "a positive manner" and with a constructive approach, keeping in view the interest of Odisha and its people, he said.
