In yet another example of violence in the name of religion, a video studio owned by a Muslim man in Kerala was set ablaze after he made comments on the use of purdah by Muslim women.
Kannur: In yet another example of violence in the name of religion, a video studio owned by a Muslim man in Kerala was set ablaze after he made comments on the use of purdah by Muslim women.
According to a report in The Indian Express, P Rafeeque, who owned the video production studio Obcura in Taliparamba of Kannur district, was also the admin of a WhatsApp group - 'What is Islam'. Rafeeque, a few days ago, had commented on the use of purdah by Muslim women.
Rafeeque had allegedly said that purdah was used by few persons as a cover for engaging in immoral activities. Apparently provoked by Rafeeque's comment, the WhatsApp group had received several threatening comments denouncing his statement of Rafeeque.
The studio was set afire in the wee hours of Saturday.
"I had incurred a loss of Rs 10 lakh," Rafeeque said in his complaint to police.
Police said extremists are suspected to be behind the act.
