New Delhi: As many as 9.73 crore enrolments have been rejected, by the Unique Identification Authority of India, due to duplication, quality of data and other technical reasons, Parliament was informed on Friday.
UIDAI is engaged in issuing Aadhaar number to Indian residents.
"As on April 30, 2015, against the total Aadhaar generation of 82.93 crores, about 9.73 crore enrolments have been rejected due to duplicate enrolments or quality issues or technical reasons," Planning Minister Rao Inderjit Singh said in a written reply to Lok Sabha.
UIDAI has the mandate to collect basic demographics (such as name, gender, date of birth and address), a photograph and biometrics (10 finger prints and 2 iris) information, undertake biometric de-duplication and issue Unique ID or Aadhaar number to residents of the country.
The process involves uploading of encrypted enrolment packets to UIDAI Central Identity Data Repository (CIDR) for process and generating Aadhaar.
People have been advised to download e-Aadhaar against their earlier enrolments if required, instead of enroling for it again.
The residents whose Aadhaar is generated by the UIDAI can retrieve unique identification number using their registered mobile phone number or email address.
Those who have not registered their mobile phone number or email address, need to visit permanent enrolment centre to retrieve their Aadhaar based on demographic information and biometric authentication.
The minister informed the House that as on April 30, a total of over 10,000 permanent enrolment centres are running in 24 States/UTs allocated to UIDAI for Aadhaar enrolment.
He further said, out of total 82.93 crore Aadhaar generated in the country, about 6.18 lakh (0.07 per cent) Aadhaar have been generated for residents with biometric exception, on April 30.
There is a procedure to enrol residents who may not possess some of the biometrics or any biometric at all.
