"I bow to Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on his birth anniversary. Jai Bhim," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

"Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar is a Yug Purush who lives in the hearts of and minds of crores of Indians. His life is characterized by unmatched determination and a firm commitment towards social justice. He made a mark as a bright lawyer, scholar, writer and intellectual who always spoke his mind," Prime Minister Modi said in his message.

"Let us pledge to dedicate ourselves to creating the India that Dr. Ambedkar dreamt of..an India that will make him proud," he added.

Various events across the country have been organized to mark the day. A great social reformer, Dr. Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891 at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh. He dedicated his entire life for the uplifting of the deprived sections of society.

As a member of the Constitution-drafting committee, Ambedkar provided constitutional guarantees and protections for a wide range of civil liberties for individual citizens. This included the right to freedom of religion, the abolition of untouchability and the outlawing of all forms of discrimination.
