New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday extended greetings to Sweden on the eve of their National Day, thanking them for the hospitality accorded to him during his recent visit to that nation.

"On behalf of the Government, the people of India and on my own behalf, it is with great pleasure that I extend warm greetings and felicitations to Your Majesty and to the people of the Kingdom of


Sweden on the occasion of your National Day," the President's message to Sweden monarch King Carl XVI Gustaf, said.


"I would like to, once again, thank Your Majesty and Her Majesty Queen Silvia for the warm reception and gracious hospitality extended to me during my recent state visit to your beautiful country. I would also like to reiterate my invitation to Her Majesty Queen Silvia to visit India. It would be a pleasure to welcome you in New Delhi," he added.


President Mukherjee further expressed his confidence over a continued cooperation between New Delhi and Stockholm.


"Relations between India and Sweden are based on the strong bedrock of shared democratic values. I am confident that the bilateral cooperation between our two countries will continue to strengthen in the years to come in every sphere of human endeavour and benefit both the Swedish and the Indian people," he wrote.


The first Head of State from India to visit Sweden, President Mukherjee travelled to Sweden on an official three day tour from May 31 to June 2.


Sweden celebrates its National Day on June 6 to commemorate the election of Gustav I as King in 1523.
