“He leaves us sad & devastated. RIP Lance Naik Hanumanthappa. The soldier in you remains immortal. Proud that martyrs like you served India,” the PM tweeted.

PM Modi had earlier visited the Army's Research and Referral Hospital to check on his health condition and join the entire nation in prayer for the Siachen hero.

Doctors at the hospital had tried all that they could do to revive him but his health condition never showed signs of recovery.
