The Supreme Court was told on Wednesday that Rahul Gandhi had not blamed the RSS as an institution for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi, but the people associated with it.

Senior counsel Kapil Sibal made the observation before a bench of Justice Dipak Misra and Justice R.F. Nariman while referring to an affidavit filed by Gandhi before the Bombay High Court challenging the defamation proceedings against him by a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker.

In 2014, while addressing a rally in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra, Rahul Gandhi had alleged that people of the RSS had assassinated Mahatma Gandhi.

In several media reports, Rahul Gandhi was reported as saying, "RSS people killed Gandhiji."
