New Delhi: In a development, which is likely to increase trouble for former Union Minister P Chidambaram, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has named his wife Nalini Chidambaram in a supplementary charge sheet in Saradha scam.
The chargesheet, filed on Monday, names Nalini neither as witness nor accused, but as one who has knowledge of the controversial channel deal. It mainly names estranged wife of former Union minister Matang Sinh, Manoranjana Sinh, along with Saradha group Chairman Sudipta Sen and businessman Santanu Ghosh.
At one time, Nalini Chidambaram was lawyer for Manoranjana Sinh, and money from Saradha scam was used to pay her fee.
In April 2013, Saradha boss Sudipta Sen has also mentioned Nalini name in his letter to CBI. In letter Sen has claimed that Saradha money was used to pay for her fee.
According to a report in the Times of India, banking details with the investigators reportedly reveal that Nalini was paid Rs 65.85 lakh between June 2010 and September 2012. But the TDS filed by the Saradha group shows a payment of Rs 1.5 crore to her from March-June 2011.
The agency sources said Sinh, Sen and Ghosh, along with their companies GNN India and Global automobiles, have been charged with criminal conspiracy, cheating and criminal breach of trust besides provisions of Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act (PCMC Act), 1978.
It is alleged that Sinh's company GNN India had received large amount of funds from Saradha group.
