Muzaffarnagar: In view of the upcoming Kawad Yatra, district authorities here have put in place security arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage which begins on July 15.

District authorities have divided the route which passes through Muzaffarnagar into 81 sectors and police personnel will be posted in each sector during the yatra, said SSP Deepak Kumar here today.


Heavy traffic would be barred on Delhi-Haridwar National Highway from July 21 for the convenience of pilgrims, he said.


100 religious places, including 52 mosques and 48 temples have been identified on the route, where Police officials in plain clothes would be deployed to avoid any mishap.


Along with this, CCTV cameras would be installed at sensitive places, said Kumar.


Beginning on July 15, Kawad pilgrims (devotees of Lord Shiva) would start?carrying water from Ganga?in Haridwar and offer it to lord Shiva on August 1.


Every year, these devotees carry holy water in small pitchers back to their homes, traveling all the way on foot.
