Siachen survivor Lance Naik Hanumanthappa brought to Delhi, Army chief Dabir Singh visits RR hospital

Call it a nature`s miracle or his will power to live, Lance Naik Hanamanthappa Koppad of Indian Army was pulled out alive by rescue teams in Siachen on Monday night.

New Delhi: Indian Army's Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad, who was rescued at Siachen after six days, has been admitted to Delhi RR Hospital on Tuesday afternoon. His condition is said to be critical but stable. 

Army chief General Dalbir Singh also visited the RR hospital to know about the recovery of Lance Naik Hanumanthappa. 

On early Tuesday morning, Lance Naik Hanumanthappa was pulled out after remaining under a thick cover of about 26-feet of snow for about six days.

Hanumanthappa, a resident of Betadur, Dharwad district of Karnataka, was among the group of ten soldiers of the 19 Madras Regiment who were missing and presumed dead in a deadly avalanche six days ago. 

Army's rescue team also managed to dig out the bodies of other nine soldiers after an extensive search of almost six days. 

Ten Indian Army soldiers were reported missing after a massive avalanche hit the high-altitude post manned by them in the Siachen glacier on Wednesday last week.

The trapped army personnel, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were of the 19 Madras Regiment.
