Cautioning people, the PMO tweeted: “Few appeals with PM’s ‘signature’ are circulated on social media. Such documents are not authentic.”

Hindustan Times quoted sources in the PMO as saying that in the last few weeks, appeals on different issues had started doing the rounds on social media, prompting them to caution people against such fraud acts.

Last week, PM Modi had pipped Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan to become the most followed Indian on Twitter.

Before this, his Twitter followers had surpassed that of maegastar Shah Rukh Khan.
