During his questioning for around 12 hours, Rahul reportedly told the Mumbai Police at Khar police station on Thursday that he had suspected something fishy right from April 24, 2012 - the day Sheena was killed.

According to the Hindustan Times, Rahul got a SMS from Sheena's phone on April 24, 2012 stating their relationship was over.

He also told the police that he had asked his step-mother Indrani Mukherjea for Sheena's contact details in the US as recently as 2014, said the daily.

Indrani got "irritated" by this and refused to divulge any details.

Rahul also told the police where he dropped Sheena, which was near National College in Bandra, from where she is believed to have been abducted.

He also revealed that Sheena had told him about her unwillingness to meet her mother, Indrani, who was her biological mother.

In fact, the police took Rahul to the exact location in Bandra to corroborate the call records of all the three accused -Indrani, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, and driver Shyam Manav Manohar Rai, reported the Hindustan Times.

As per Rahul, he was possessing Sheena's passport in 2012, so there was no way she could have gone to the US.

Meanwhile, in a significant development in the Sheena Bora murder case, the Mumbai police have traced the person who had sent a resignation letter on her behalf - and at the behest of her accused mother Indrani Mukherjea - to her employer, weeks after she was brutally killed and her body disposed off, Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria said here late Thursday.

The same person also sent a mail to her landlord foregoing her lease and licence agreement on a rented flat, he said.

In a brief interaction with the media, Maria said that during the investigations, police found that a letter of resignation to her employer and another letter to the landlord were sent on Sheena's behalf after her death.

Sheena was employed as an assistant manager with Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd since June 20, 2011. She had taken leave of absence from her work, on April 24, 2012, the day she was killed, as she wanted to meet her mother.

Maria added that the probe in the sensational murder case progressed at a "brisk pace" on Thursday, but declined to reveal other details.
