UK poll verdict a global trend of people electing performance-based governments: BJP
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday termed the poll results in the United Kingdom as being reflective of a global trend where people are electing governments that are performing well.
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday termed the poll results in the United Kingdom as being reflective of a global trend where people are electing governments that are performing well.
"The results from the United Kingdom where the Prime Minister and the Conservative Party have got another term in office; they seem to me as a global trend where people are electing governments that are performing well. People are giving clear majorities to the parties rather than giving hung verdicts because the UK elections were expected to throw up a fractured mandate," BJP spokesperson G.V.L. Narasimha Rao told ANI.
"All the poll analysts believe it was going to be a hung parliament in the UK and the people of the United Kingdom have given a clear mandate and given numbers to Mr. Cameron to rule for another term. I think now it is a global trend," he added.
Cameron is set to return to Downing Street after Labour Party leader Ed Miliband conceded defeat in the wake of the Tories securing solid majority at the May 7 polls, defying pre- election predictions.
After claiming victory in Whitney, Cameron struck an inclusive tone by saying that he intended to "govern on the basis of governing for everyone in our United Kingdom".
He also voiced his desire to press ahead with a referendum on Britain`s membership of the European Union and to complete the Conservatives` economic plan.
