Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang have expressed condolences to the victims of India's deadliest train accident in 17 years, in which at least 150 people were killed and over 200 others injured, state media reported on Wednesday.

In a message to President Pranab Mukherjee, Xi has extended deep condolences to the victims of the disaster, as well as sympathy to the families of the victims and the wounded, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.


In his message to Prime Minster Narendra Modi, Li said, he was shocked to hear that, a train derailed in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, causing major casualties.


On behalf of the Chinese government, he offered his deepest condolences to the victims and their families.


14 coaches of the 19321 Indore-Patna express train were derailed in the wee hours on Sunday, killing 150 people and injuring around 200 others including many seriously.
