The clarification comes after former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah had said that the foundation had been laid by former HRD Minister M M Pallam Raju.

"I believe HRD Minister is laying the Foundation Stone for the Central University Kashmir. Strange, @Pallamrajumm and I did that some time ago," Omar had tweeted.

Reacting to these reports, the HRD ministry said that the University has scheduled the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Pre-engineered Buildings (PEBs) on October 20 for which invitations have been sent to the HRD Minister and others.

It is to be noted that it was CUK campus for which the foundation stone has already been laid on May 28, 2013, it said. The PEBs are structures designed as two-storeyed buildings, two in number, with appropriate space to house only 8 teaching departments of the University, it added.

The Ministry said that during the execution of works at CUK campus, it came to the light that the site has extremely low load bearing capacity and a number of active water bodies, which necessitated the deep pile foundation even for the boundary wall.
