"In the early hours of morning today (Wednesday), Pakistan army used 82 mm mortars and automatic weapons to target Indian positions on the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district," a senior police officer was quoted as saying by IANS.

This is the third incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistan in 48 hours in the same sector, the officer said.

"Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked ceasefire violation in Balakot sector using automatics yesterday (Tuesday) from 6.30 pm to 9 pm. Today (Wednesday) in Krishna Ghati sector, they have been using 82 mm mortars and automatics from 7.10 am," Defence Spokesperson Lt. Col. Manish Mehta said.

"The shelling and firing is continuing. We have responded appropriately and effectively. No casualty has been so far reported from our side. Pakistan army also fired 120 mm mortar and RPGs at Indian positions," he said.

Pakistani troops have violated the ceasefire 17 times in September this year.

On Sunday, BSF officer Sohan was killed in Pakistan shelling when Pakistani troops targeted their post in Manjakotr sector along LoC in Rajouri district.
