Srinagar: The Srinagar-Leh National Highway in Jammu and Kashmir remained closed for the second consecutive day on Friday due to a landslide in Kargil area triggered by cloudburst.
"The traffic on Srinagar-Leh road has been suspended due to the landslide last night at Pushkum in Kargil district, which has washed away a part of the road," a spokesman of the traffic department said. The landslide was triggered by a cloudburst that struck the Kargil area at around 8.00 pm yesterday.
The cloudburst resulted in flooding of many areas of the district, a police spokesman said.
"Two feet of mud was reported to have accumulated in Kargil town while five to six feet mud was reported in Titikchumik and seven to eight feet in Hunderman," he said. The spokesman said police rescued nine persons who were stranded due to floods caused by the cloudburst. One of them sustained injuries and was hospitalised, he added.
