According to police, the Maoists, numbering around 50, surrounded a government school situated at Serendag village of the district, around 140 km from Ranchi, and used explosives to blow the school building. Though the school building was damaged, no one was injured in the incident.

The Maoists reportedly left a pamphlet, with a warning that schools should not be used by the security forces. They also demanded that security force personnel staying in a few schools in the district should be removed.
