Thiruvanathapuram: Tense moment prevailed after an elephant turned violent during a temple procession taken out in Kozhikode in the state of Kerala.

However, a temple priest, who was sitting on the elephant, somehow managed to jump onto an electric pole, thus saving his life from the rampaging animal.


The episode was captured by one of the residents, and has been shared on the social media, shows the mammoth running violently on the streets at 7pm of the city during a procession of Valayanad temple, with a priest sitting on top of it. 


In the video, the animal is seen destroying an autorickshaw and also a two-wheeler parked nearby.


Interestingly, all this while, the priest was sitting on the elephant. After the animal took a speeding turn, the priest found a moment to clings to an electric pole and sliding down, therby escaping himself miraculously; while the animal ran towards another street continuing to demolish whatever came in his way.


After creating havoc for a couple of hours, the jumbo was finally brought under control by the elephant squad and by local people at about 11 pm.
