Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government on Monday imposed Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code (unlawful assembling of people) in Betul district reasoning that there are law and order problems there borne out of a crisis over water.

According to a report, Betul district of Madhya Pradesh has been facing severe water crisis this year. Section 144 prohibits unlawful assembly of five or more persons at a place.


District Magistrate of Betul told News 18 that all construction work, whether government or private has been restricted in the town due to the imposition of Section 144 in the region.
