Nashik: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) received a jolt when six Councillors of the party from Trimbakeshwar near here, one of them President of the civic body, joined the BJP.

Besides them, two Independent members of Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council (TMC) joined the saffron outfit in the presence of BJP leader and Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan here yesterday, Nashik city BJP President Laxman Savaji said on Saturday.


TMC President Anagha Phadke and five other Councillors - Yashoda Adasare, Asha Zombad, Yogesh Tungar, Yashwant Bhoye and Abhijit Kannav - quit the Raj Thackeray-led party and joined the BJP, which is heading the coalition government in the State.


The Independent members of the civic body who switched sides are Vijaya Chaddha and Dhananjay Tungar.


Incidentally, two days ago, Phadke had defeated BJP candidate Trupti Dharane for the post of TMC President.


Trimbakeshwar is a holy town around 25km from Nashik on the banks of river Godavari, where the Kumb Mela will start next month.
