Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundations of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial, which will come up at Indu Mills compound, and two Mumbai Metro projects here on Sunday.

The two new metro lines will run through the western suburbs and are expected to decongest the road traffic.


The Prime Minister will fly here from Delhi tomorrow afternoon and return to the national capital in the evening, an official said.


Soon after arrival, Modi will proceed to Nhava Sheva where he will lay the foundation of the fourth terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, the official told PTI.


He will then proceed to Chaitya Bhoomi at Shivaji Park in Dadar area to pay tributes to Ambedkar. The PM will then lay foundation for a world-class memorial for Dr Ambedkar at Indu Mills Compound in Dadar.


The memorial will be constructed on a 12.5-acre plot near the existing Chaitya Bhoomi where Ambedkar was cremated, on the shores of Dadar Chowpatty.


The PM will conclude his visit with a function to lay the foundation for Metro Corridor and a public meeting in suburban Bandra Kurla Complex, the official said.


An 18.6 km metro railway route from Dahisar to D N Nagar is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 4,994 crore, while another 16.5 km Dahisar East to Andheri East route will be constructed at a cost of Rs 4,737 crore.
